About the Class
Formula SAE is collegiate design competition hosted by SAE International where students design and build an open wheeled Formula-style race car to compete against other top universities around the globe. Teams engineer to develop the fastest, lightest race car while focusing on reliability and affordability.
The project is a year long build with thousands of hours dedicated from UCI student engineers that provides a valuable real world experience and project management skills. The competition is not only about building and racing a fast car, but also creating the best package to sell to a hypothetical potential buying market.
Our class is divided into subsystems with team leads overseeing all activities; the project lead, Joe Kaifesh, works with the team leads in order to effectively make weekly progress. The class has three cars. Gamma, the electric car, Delta, the CNG-powered car, and Epsilon, the 2011 FSAE racecar, are the three cars that the students are working on in order to compete in the Energy Invitational 2012 on May 19th.
Starting in the academic year of 2011-2012, our race car team committed to a two year program, which will consist of designing and fabricating a race car in a cycle of two years in order to compete in the annual FSAE competition. Prior to 2011, the UCI race car team traditionally engineered a race car annually; we believe that the new two year commitment will lead to better results in the FSAE competitions.
Why Sponsor Us?
We need your support! As everyone is enduring the tough economic times, U.C. systems have received budgets cuts, and the students are having to pay for the build through class room fees and additional out of pocket costs.
It does take a budget to build to a good race car to remain competitive as the field is amongst the top engineering schools.
By sponsoring us, the company will get great exposure to thousands of people at the competition and other display events such as the L.A. Autoshow and annual design reviews.
The FSAE competition will gain publicity from various magazines such as Car & Driver and Road & Track. Television stations such as CNN, Discovery Channel, and Speed Channel have covered the competition.
As sponsors, the company will not only be partners with the class, but with the University by helping the development of education.
